The government has initiated kusum yojana for the overall upliftment of farmers in July 2019. Kusum stands for kisan urja suraksha utthan evam mahabhiyan. This scheme is initiated by the Ministry of new and renewable energy. Under this scheme, farmers can establish a solar plant on their land with the help of subsidies given by the government up to 90%.
It consists of three components A, B, C.
In component A the person can establish a solar power plant on his land from 500 kilowatts to 2 megawatts and then sell the energy generated from it to the grid @ 40 paisa/Kilowatt to distribution companies of India.
In component B where grids are not available but land and water available. In this component, pharma can establish stand-alone solar agriculture pumps of 7.5 HP worth 17.5 lakh. With this component, people can easily get their lands by using solar energy.
In component C the existing water pumps running from electricity are upgraded to run on solar electricity. The extrasolar energy generated from solar plants will be sold to distribution companies of India at the prefixed rate.
The central government provides 30% subsidy and the state government provides 30% subsidy whereas 30% is the loan component and 10% is a contribution from the individual.
Farmers can avail extra income by selling the energy generated by solar plants.
They can minimize their input cost by utilizing the energy for irrigating their fields.
It will help in reducing pollution as solar energy is a clean fuel.
